Baltimore Directory

Located in the U.S. state of Maryland, Baltimore is a city of contrasting neighborhoods. Take a wander down the cobblestone streets of historic Fells Point and Federal Hill; drive along the wide avenues of elegant Mount Vernon. You'll notice the countless modest blue-collar enclaves - the city wears many different faces. On the east and west sides of the city you’ll find block upon block of the city's trademark redbrick row houses, each fronted by white marble steps.

Downtown Baltimore paints a different picture with monstrous apartment blocks. Uptown, marble mansions, grand churches, and philanthropic institutions proudly bearing their founders' names mark the city's progress.

If you’re looking for an interesting attraction, make a visit to Edgar Allan Poe’s grave, which is located close to the city center. A literary giant whose horror novels continue to inspire authors and filmmakers, Poe settled in Baltimore in 1831 and died in 1849. One Poe enthusiast even decorates the grave with roses and a bottle of cognac every year on the anniversary of his birthday (19 January).
